From Pisa to Rome, The many man made wonders along the way…

leaning tower of pisa

The leaning tower fo Pisa, there really was not much else happening in Pisa, so this attraction really provides the area with an income from tourism.

colosseum

All in all Rome was rather dissapointing as a city however the tourist attractions here are incredible. The Colosseum was amazing, it is such a shame that all the marble was stripped from the facade to erect a hideous monument to the leader at the time.

trevi fountain

The trevi fountain was an amazing feat of engineering in its day and remains one of the highlights of the city. Ghost stories and all.

vatican city

The Vatican city and in particular St Peter’s Basilica was incredible, the amount of craftsmanship, attention to detail and money that went into the construction is amazing.

cinque terre

Next stop on the trip we head from Monaco into Italy and the lovely Cinque Terre region. This area along the coast is a series of 5 villages joined by a railway and a coastal walk. This area was stunning and one of the nicest places to relax and soak up the culture.

florence

From Cinque Terre we headed to Florence, an amazing culture of arts, food and history. The further south we went the warmer the weather was getting and with that longer daylight hours which meant we could experience so much more of this wonderful country.

the famous monaco hairpin

That famous formula one road race, the monaco grand prix… Shown here is the hair pin used in the circuit.

Monaco is an amazing place, as an application to become a citizen here costs a million dollars it is understandably one of the richest places in the world. Surrounded by ferrari’s, lambourgini’s and super yaughts this place seemed to have everything… Unfortunately they must be able to sense who has money and who doesnt as we were banned from entering the casino, lol. oh well just soaking up the atmosphere was amazing in itself!

over looking the harbour

A view to one of the many sections of the harbour filled with super yaughts.

Avignon

From where we left of last time in Switzerland we headed back into France and down to the south to the French Riviera. The photo above is of the old city of Avignon from the other side of the river. The old part of the city itself is the only place outside of the Vatican city that any Pope in history has resided.

beach in antebes

From Avignon we headed to Antibes and when in the south of France what else would you do but head to the beach.

Next stop on the agenda Monaco!

switzerland

Having just left Paris on our trip through Europe last year this shot was taken on the drive through Switzerland on our way to Lauterbrunnen, an absolutely amazing part of the world and somewhere i would deffinately intend to return to. Everything here seemed like a scene from a movie, the country and the culture was all kept in such pristine conditions.

The amazing view from our campsite

Now in the Lauterbrunnen valley this was the view from our campsite, such lush green grass (a rarity for us outback aussies).

biking through the swiss alps

The highlight of this leg of the trip was surely mountain biking through the swiss alps, though not all the bike paths were as good as this road, taking a few wrong turns we ended up on a few hiking trails….whoops!

eiffel tower

Our amazing European adventure kicks of the lovely Paris, Such a cliche but this city truely was all i imagined. The city of romance it felt so easy to get swept away in the place, the people and of course the food!

Palace gardens near the Louvre

From the Eiffel tour we headed for the Louvre and come across these amazing gardens near the Louvre, it turned out that the next time we were here there was a carnival to the left of this shot where the ferris wheel gave us amazing views across the city and most importantly as the wheel itself was not a landmark attraction it meant that we could view all of the landmarks of Paris from here.

sacre coure

On such a beuautiful day, in an equally beautiful city, the day out to Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur (pictured) was stunning. The views from the Sacre Coeur and the atmosphere of Montmartre was everything i had imagined Paris to hold.

Notre dame

Following the river Seine through the city on our final day in Paris we visited more of what this wonderful city had to offer, The Notre Dame Cathedral shown above.

The first stop on our trip through Europe complete it was now off to Swtizerland, however it would take alot to out do that which the magical city of Paris has left!
