internal – bedside tables
As a background to my practice i have decided to post images and description of my previous works to give viewers a better understanding of where i have come from in terms of design and construction.
This piece was created for a working surface brief which was to incorporate a working drawer. I decided to make a matching set of bedside tables and took influences (as with many of my designs) from architecture and elements of the built environment we inhabit.
This piece is a meshing of japanese archecture and The Farnsworth house by famous architect Miers Van Der Rohe. Hence the internal concept of displaying objects and having the internal elements become an integral part of the external, as the Farnsworth house does. The japanese components come through in the feel and the construction processes and joinery.
